Why did you start dancing?
"I started dancing in summer 2001 when during the late spring I met a girl who introduced me to Salsa dancing. I originally wanted to do more biking in the outdoors, but the summer had 3 weeks of rain and I started taking dance lessons instead. I met my future wife, Julia, in the fall when the class did not have enough people, but the instructor agreed to run the class so we learned Salsa and Merengue. A few months later we met a college friend who had changed his career from engineering to become a ballroom dance instructor with his wife that led to continuous dancing with them for next 15 years. In about 2006 we saw another couple that had a studio who we really liked their styles and classes offered so we took lessons and privates with them also for the next 10 years."
What’s your favorite dance?
"Favorite dances are Rumba and Hustle."
What’s your favorite memory at DanceWise?
"We really liked the black tie gala back in May 2025. Got to see and meet a lot of people that were past and present students of Dancewise."
Do you have any advice for other dancers?
"Have a place you can practice, even if it is small, and have mirrors to help with your posture. Start a collection of music of the dances you practice and songs you can have that give the flavor of the dance you want practice."
