Frequently
Asked
Questions
Do we need dance experience before taking wedding dance lessons?
Not at all! Most couples who come to us have little or no dance experience. Wedding dance lessons are designed specifically for beginners, and we'll guide you through every step of the process in a comfortable and supportive environment.
How far in advance should we start wedding dance lessons?
We generally recommend starting 3 to 6 months before your wedding whenever possible. This allows plenty of time to learn comfortably and practice confidently.
However, don't worry if your wedding is approaching quickly. We've helped couples prepare beautiful first dances with only a few weeks of preparation.
How many lessons will we need?
Every couple is different.
Some couples are looking for a few simple and elegant moves that help them feel comfortable on the dance floor. Others want a fully choreographed routine complete with dips, turns, and memorable moments.
During your first lesson, we'll discuss your goals and recommend a lesson plan that fits your timeline, budget, and vision.
Can you choreograph a dance to our wedding song?
Absolutely!
We can create a customized first dance specifically for your chosen song.
Whether your music is romantic, upbeat, country, classic, modern, or completely unique, we'll design a dance that matches both the music and your personalities.
What if we haven't chosen our song yet?
That's perfectly fine.
Our instructors can help you select a song that fits your style and dancing goals. We can also provide suggestions based on your preferred genre, wedding theme, and comfort level.
We don't want anything complicated. Can you help?
Of course.
Many couples simply want to look natural, confident, and comfortable during their first dance. Your dance does not need to be elaborate to be memorable.
We'll help you create a dance that feels authentic and enjoyable rather than stressful.
We want a fun surprise dance. Can you help with that?
Yes!
Whether you're interested in a mashup, a themed routine, a humorous performance, or an energetic crowd-pleaser, we can help bring your vision to life while ensuring it remains achievable and enjoyable.
Can you help with Father-Daughter and Mother-Son dances?
Absolutely.
In addition to first dances, we frequently help parents and children prepare for Father-Daughter dances, Mother-Son dances, and other special family dances that are meaningful parts of the wedding celebration.
What if one of us learns faster than the other?
That's completely normal.
Every person learns differently. Private lessons allow us to adapt our teaching style to each partner so both people feel comfortable and successful throughout the learning process.
What should we wear to our lessons?
Comfortable clothing that allows movement is ideal.
For most lessons, everyday comfortable clothes work perfectly. As your wedding approaches, we may recommend practicing in shoes similar to your wedding footwear to help you feel prepared and confident.
Should we practice between lessons?
Yes, but don't worry about spending hours every day.
Even a few minutes of practice several times per week can significantly improve confidence, muscle memory, and overall comfort on the dance floor.
We'll give you specific recommendations so you know exactly what to practice.
What dances work best for wedding first dances?
Many styles can work beautifully for weddings, including:
-
Waltz
-
Foxtrot/Foxy
-
Rumba
-
Nightclub Two Step
-
Swing
-
Country Two Step or Arizona Two Step
-
Salsa - Think The Dirty Dancing Movie
The best dance depends on your music, personality, and goals. We'll help you choose the style that works best for your wedding.
What if we're nervous about dancing in front of our guests?
You're not alone.
This is one of the most common concerns couples have when they begin lessons. Our goal is not just to teach steps, but to help you feel comfortable, connected, and confident.
By wedding day, most couples are excited to share their dance rather than worried about it.
Do we need a choreographed routine?
Not necessarily.
Some couples prefer a fully choreographed dance, while others prefer learning lead-and-follow skills that allow them to dance naturally without memorizing every movement.
We can help you decide which approach best fits your goals and comfort level.
Can wedding dance lessons help reduce wedding stress?
Many couples tell us that their dance lessons become one of their favorite parts of wedding planning.
Lessons provide dedicated time together away from seating charts, vendor calls, and planning details. It's an opportunity to connect, laugh, learn something new, and create memories before the big day.
What happens during our first lesson?
Your first lesson is relaxed and fun.
We'll discuss your wedding date, music selection, dancing experience, and goals. Then we'll introduce a few basic movements and begin creating a plan that will help you feel confident and prepared for your special day.
Why should we take wedding dance lessons?
Your first dance is one of the most memorable moments of your wedding day.
Wedding dance lessons help you feel comfortable in front of your guests, create beautiful memories together, improve confidence, and transform what could be a stressful moment into one you'll genuinely look forward to.
Most importantly, you'll learn skills that can be enjoyed long after the wedding is over.
